Cars

Something to spend your money on…

You have to spend your money on something, so I spend a lot of mine of cars. When I was 23 I bought myself a Lotus Esprit S3, which I could ill afford. I kept that for 4 years, then got myself a new shaped Turbo. I only kept that for 2 years and then traded up to a much more modern Esprit GT3. 6 years went by and that got swapped for my final Esprit, a Sport 350. So when I decided on no more Lotuses I changed it for a Noble M12 3, which is not a very practical car (no boot for example) but still I drove it for 6 years until it went for the much more practical (and staggeringly boring) Aston Martin Vantage. It’s a car I never really got on with, so 18 months later I sold it back to the dealer where I bough it from and bought myself a Nissan GT-R, which I’ve now had for just over 4 years. It’s practical and, much more to the point, it’s not in any way boring. And in that time I’ve made some changes to it which makes it feel almost like buying a new car. And so currently I’ve no plans to change it, and even if I did, I don’t know what I’d change it for anyway. As well as the Lotuses, Aston, Noble and Nissan, I’ve also had a number of shopping cars; a Micra, 2 Clios and a Fiat 500. When I got my Fiat 500, I then started noticing just how many of the little chaps there on the road - they are everywhere. But then they are actually a good car to drive. I’ve had that for about 3 years and I’ve no plans to sell it since it does everything I want it to do.

Cats

Something to stroke… Over almost the last 20 years we’ve owned 3 cats, Boo, Willow and Cassie. Boo was a neighbour’s cat that wondered in the house one day and moved in with us (with the blessing of her previous owner). When Boo died, we adopted Willow, a very different cat from Boo. Unfortunately she became very ill and had to be put down. So now we have Cassie the cat. She’s still very young and a bit nutty. She’s the youngest cat we have owned and it’s interesting to see how she keeps on changing as she gets older.
